Ferco Seating Secures Contract for Aberystwyth University Auditorium Seats Renovation
Aberystwyth University, a leading educational institution in Wales, UK, has selected Ferco Seating Systems to renovate the auditorium seats in its main lecture theatre, in a project aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students and improving the functionality of the space. The contract, which was announced in early 2024, will see Ferco replace the university’s aging seating with 350 premium auditorium seats, designed to meet the highest standards of comfort, durability, and accessibility. This project follows Ferco’s successful installation of auditorium seats at other Scottish universities, including the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews.

The main lecture theatre at Aberystwyth University is one of the busiest spaces on campus, hosting lectures, seminars, and events for thousands of students each year. The existing auditorium seats, which were installed more than 20 years ago, had become worn and outdated, failing to meet the comfort and accessibility needs of modern students. The renovation project aims to address these issues, providing students with a more comfortable and engaging learning environment.
Ferco Seating Systems will supply 350 FT8 Wrimatic seats for the renovation, a model that has proven popular with educational institutions across the UK. The auditorium seats feature integrated A3 Wrimatic tablets, which are robust and easy to use, allowing students to take notes, place laptops, or reference materials during lectures. The tablets stow neatly when not in use, ensuring that the seats remain compact and easy to access. The seats also feature ergonomic design elements, including lumbar support and comfortable cushioning, reducing student fatigue during long lectures.

Accessibility was a key priority for the university, and the new auditorium seats will include several features to ensure inclusivity. The lecture theatre will have a number of removable seats with adjustable height tablets, allowing students with reduced mobility to easily access the space. The seats will also comply with the latest EU accessibility standards, including Braille labels and easy-to-reach controls, ensuring that all students have equal access to the learning environment.
