Tennessee's Neyland Stadium Launches $1M Donor Suites With Custom-Designed Stadium Seats
College football's donor arms race is reaching new heights, and the University of Tennessee just unveiled the most exclusive seats in Neyland Stadium history: 10 Founders Suites, with custom-designed stadium seats that the donors themselves helped create, with multi-year leases that cost up to $1 million a year. It's the latest example of how college programs are using premium seating to fund massive stadium renovations, while giving their biggest donors a one-of-a-kind experience.

Neyland Stadium, the 104-year-old home of Tennessee Volunteers football, is in the middle of a $337 million renovation, to modernize the aging venue. The team is doing the renovation in phases, using a surgical approach, instead of tearing down entire sections of the stadium, so they can keep the venue's historic charm, while adding modern features. The Founders Suites are the latest part of that renovation, and they're the most exclusive part of the entire project.
The suites are located on the west side of the stadium, at the 50-yard line, right under the upper deck, with the best views in the entire venue. Each suite is between 900 and 1,000 square feet, with an indoor lounge area, and an outdoor porch with 18 luxury seats, right overlooking the field. The indoor area has a bar, custom cocktails, and space to mingle, so donors can host their friends and clients, and enjoy the game in comfort. And the best part? The donors got to help design every part of the suite, including the seats.
When the team was designing the suites, they worked closely with each of the 10 donors, to make sure the space was exactly what they wanted. They held at least two meetings with each donor, to go over the design, the materials, and the features. Some donors brought in their own interior designers, to customize the space to their taste. Others chose the fabrics, the countertops, and the seats themselves, to make the suite feel like an extension of their own home. The seats, manufactured by Irwin Seating, are custom-made for each suite, with the donor's choice of fabrics, colors, and features. Some donors chose classic, wood-paneled, country-club style seats, while others chose brighter, more modern designs, to match their own style. A single custom luxury Stadium chair in these suites is designed to be as comfortable as a living room chair, with extra padding, reclining backs, and lumbar support, so donors can enjoy the entire game without any discomfort.
The suites also have retractable NanaWalls, which separate the indoor lounge from the outdoor porch, so donors can open up the wall, and let in the fresh air and the noise of the crowd, or close it, to have a quiet, air-conditioned space, if they want. The outdoor porch has built-in heaters, so even on cold fall days, the donors can stay warm, and enjoy the game outside. And each suite comes with 24 tickets to every home game, plus all-inclusive, high-end food and beverage service from Aramark, so donors don't have to wait in line for concessions.
The revenue from these suites is going to fund the rest of the Neyland Stadium renovation. The team says that the premium seating revenue is what lets them do the non-revenue generating parts of the renovation, like upgrading the concourses, adding more restrooms, and improving accessibility for fans with disabilities. "Any premium seating project we do in Neyland Stadium helps fund non-revenue generating renovations," said Brady Hart, Tennessee's Deputy AD and CRO. That means the biggest donors are essentially funding the upgrades that make the venue better for all fans, not just the wealthy ones.

The suites have already been a huge hit. All 10 of them sold out in just a few weeks, even with the $1 million a year price tag. Donors are excited to have a custom, exclusive space to watch the game, and to be part of the historic renovation of Neyland Stadium. And the project is part of a growing trend across college football, where programs are adding ultra-exclusive premium seating, to raise money for stadium renovations, and compete with other programs for donors. Alabama, Georgia, and Texas A&M all have similar founder-level suites, with multi-million dollar leases, and Tennessee's new suites are right up there with them, as some of the most exclusive in the entire sport.
The custom seats are the centerpiece of that experience. For the donors, the suite isn't just a place to watch the game—it's a status symbol, a place to host clients, and a way to support the team they love. And the custom Stadium chair, designed exactly to their taste, makes that experience even more personal, turning a day at the football game into a luxury experience that rivals any five-star restaurant or private club.
